A few times a year our family packs up and heads a few hours south to Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina. We enjoy a week of camping and beach fun and as everyone knows the great joy of traveling is exploring new places, all the fun restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques along the way. This past trip I finally ducked into Macdonald Marketplace in the Frogmore area of Saint Helena Island South Carolina.
The first time our family visited the area I immediately recognized Macdonald Marketplace from a Southern Living feature where it was named one of the “South’s Best Shops” in 2019. I was really excited to go see it for myself but we were arriving in town after closing. Though it was closed the shop looked no less cozy with its glowing lamps on in the window sparkling off of every reflective trinket inside.
However on our most recent vacation I found extra time in between shell collecting and campfires to head over and check out the store for myself. From the moment that I walked in the door I was met with the friendliest staff and beautifully styled vignettes of antique, vintage, custom pillows, boutique items and beautiful art.
I perused through the seasonal items on display. The staff has done the most incredible job of displaying autumnal decor but not in a way that made me feel like Fall threw up all over the place. Every nook and cranny is tastefully adorned with treasures and finds – nothing feels bland or like it could pick it out at any big box store.
Runners and antique rugs adorn the main thoroughfare and all of the options were beautiful.
Macdonald Marketplace not only carries new merchandise, they fill in their inventory with selections of antique and vintage. It gives the store the beautiful collected look that we all desire in our own homes. This is one of my favorite spots in the store, of course it features a beautiful collection of blue and white dish ware!
Macdonald Marketplace displays the most amazing collection of art, obviously some is new but I found so many small vintage prints and paintings as well. They even have a custom framing and design shop in the back of the store. If you are local this would be a great option to help upgrade your framing game.
The Marketplace has tons of gifts, from children’s items to candles and soap they have it all. Which brings me to my last stop on the store tour, the gourmet food and drinks!
Here you’ll find party supplies, drink ware, libations, mixers and snack mixes.
Macdonald Marketplace was such a delight to visit and I’ll definitely be back the next time we make our south bound journey. I’m excited to see how they change up the decor with the seasons.
On your way out of town be sure to stop by The Low Country Cider Company & Superior Coffee for a slice of pie and a coffee for the road. The coffee was great and the pecan pie was on point, even my child who swears off nuts completely devoured a piece!
Thank you for shopping with me!
